To create a centre on the NUST campus for promoting Pakistani IT talents’ work in Japan , Establishment of Pakistan Japan Centre for Mutual Cooperation

Plus W started as a global recruiting company in 2020. Currently, our business is introducing and dispatching mainly Pakistani advanced IT workers to Japanese corporations. Pakistan is a developed country in IT education, producing nearly 20,000 engineers each year. Its population is large compared globally, with a median age in the early 20s. In this promising country in the world’s attention, the official language is English, which helps the abundant workforce share their expertise not only in Pakistan, but also globally.

With the help of Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, we were connected to NUST last year and we have discussed how to create opportunities and systems so the advanced IT talents in Pakistan can work in Japan. As a result, we came to an agreement to set up the Japan Centre on the university campus. To materialize the efforts to generate work opportunities in Japan for Pakistani talents, we signed on the MOA yesterday. The signing ceremony was conducted online with the ambassadors from both countries present who have assisted us with today’s agreement.

Japan Centre to be open this May

Currently, we are leading the plan to establish a Japan Centre in the National Sciences & Technology Park on the University campus. This centre is to function as a place to obtain real-time information on Japanese corporations’ developments and general information on Japan. We would like to make it also a support base for the students who are willing to work in Japan. Our international business head, Kango Hayashi, is chosen to be the head of the Centre and he will move to Pakistan to begin preparing for the set-up. Also, our staff, Umair, will leave Japan and be in charge of administration at the Centre on the campus of his alma mater, NUST. After the establishment of the Centre, we are planning to host endowment seminars, business hackathons, and job fairs. We will be facilitating the environment where the graduates can flourish in Japanese corporations in Japan and in Pakistan in diverse ways.

Into the Future

What is expected of us are in essence:

  • Providing trainings for additional IT skills to become immediate forces in corporations
  • Sharing Japanese culture and working style
  • Matching with work in Japanese businesses (internships, job fairs, etc.)

We are also expected to engage in industry/academia projects, bridging NUST and Japanese universities and other efforts in vast areas. To make these a reality, we will endeavor, collaborating more closely with Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, Embassy of Pakistan Tokyo and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Karachi office.

Why Pakistan?

Japan has concerns about the declining birthrate and aging population and the subsequent shortage of labor. As digitalization advances, the lack of engineers is becoming acute. According to a report from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the year 2030 may see up to 790,000 engineer shortage, depending on how IT market will grow. As digital transformation accelerates, securing dependable IT personnel is becoming a looming challenge for many corporations.

In that light, Pakistan is acclaimed as a country of IT engineers after India. Different from Japan, Pakistani population’s average age is astonishingly young - 24.1 years old – and IT education is emphasized there. According to a study on international trade and investment issued by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) on November 19, 2021, their export of telecommunication and computer-related services (ICT) grew sharply to $2119 million (increase by 47.2%) between 2020 and 2021. ICT is now one of their main industries. Pakistan is said to have nearly 300,000 English-speaking IT talents and is expected to further their IT export

That is why Plus W signed an agreement with NUST, which is touted as Pakistan’s top university. We vision to build a career model for the IT students who have been trained and graduated there to magnify their talents in Japanese corporations, and we hope to offer these chances to many students.
