MOU signed with CIRCLE, a Pakistani NPO, regarding IT and Japanese language education to expand job opportunities for young people and women in IT

On September 20, we signed an MOU with CIRCLE, which aims to improve the social status of women in Pakistan through IT technology, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other global companies and organizations.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ms. Sadaffe Abid, CEO of CIRCLE, and other members of our joint project promotion team, as well as Mr. Horiuchi, Executive Vice President & COO, Mr. Shiono, Head of Pakistan Japan Centre. The two parties agreed to deepen their cooperation as a means of exchanging human resources and technology in the IT industry.

As a specific initiative for the future, Shiono, who will lead the joint project based on this MOU. Plus W will provide lectures on the characteristics and technical topics of Japanese IT development to approximately 50 CIRCLE students/graduates from October 2023 to the end of January 2024, focusing first on expanding job opportunities for back-end engineers. The plan is to provide Japanese-language education in the form of classes specifically for IT engineers, as well as lectures on the characteristics and technical topics of IT development in Japan.

Through this agreement, we will accelerate further expansion of opportunities for Pakistani IT professionals to work in Japanese companies.
Furthermore, based on the selection by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the “New Business Creation Promotion Support Project in Emerging DX Countries”, this initiative is being implemented as part of a demonstration for the development of highly skilled IT professionals, with a focus on IT as well as Japanese language and culture, in the field of human resource development of Pakistan, and to promote their matching with Japanese companies.

CIRCLE Women Association (CIRCLE) is a non-profit organization with the mission of empowering one million women across Pakistan, and aims to women playing a vital role in Pakistan's economic development by strengthening digital literacy, improving access to financial services, and entrepreneurship education.
CIRCLE has been recognized both in Pakistan and on the international stage, and is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the world's largest philanthropic foundations, and has been selected by Microsoft for Startup, a program that supports startups that use technology to solve challenging social problems. CIRCLE has already provided various online and offline job training programs, including digital literacy programs, in more than 80 cities to support women's advancement in society.
